14. Kansas city Royals – A monumental step forward for the Royals, but it has to hurt seeing Wil Myers and Chris Archer having so much success with Tampa Bay.
Adrian Beltre remains on the DL with a strained hamstring, but like Boston, this Ranger lineup continues to hit the ball all over the park. It second in the Majors in both hitting and scoring with a .277 team batting average and an average of 5.09 runs per game.
Carlos Guillen, who has stumbled to a .182 average, should be very welcoming of Chicago pitching. Guillen led all current Tigers with a .326 average and an on base percentage of .456.
I find it interesting to see that the 1921-22 New york Yankees made the list. When they acquired Babe Ruth from the Red Sox, a baseball fan’s first thought after all the home runs and the “House that Ruth Built” is that the Yankees immediately dominated major league baseball in the Roaring Twenties after that ill-fated trade by Boston.
Danks’ located his fastball with perfection, keeping it down in the zone and right on the corners of the strike zone. His cutter jammed Twins hitters all day, and his changeup and curveball kept them off-balance. Under the circumstances, it was the best outing of Danks’ career without a doubt.
The starting pitching continued to be solid. The starters have had seven consecutive quality starts and have merited a paltry 1.37 ERA (including tonight). Edwin Jackson had his slider hitting the right spots striking out five through seven innings and allowing only five singles. Walks have been an issue with Jackson, but not tonight. Jackson would only allow one base runner via the walk. Torii Hunter grounded into his twelfth double play of the season in the sixth to end one of the only legitimate threats of the evening. sale jerseys and Will Ohman each pitched a scoreless inning to close out the night. Jackson moved to 3-4 on the year and Santana dropped to 1-4. John Danks will take the mound in search of his first win tomorrow against Joel Pineiro.
In addition to the Yankees victory, their Captain, Derek Jeter continued his path towards baseball immortality, surpassing Eddie Collins for sole possession of ninth place on baseball’s all-time hits list with a 2-for-3 evening.
